(November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, & 30th)

In this module of 5 classes, each encounter will be dedicated to one of the 4 basic elements. Earth, fire, water and air. From the warm up to the collective improvisation exercises, we’ll discover and play with points of possible connection between the elements, our bodies and movement. The last day of class will be a mixture of the four elements, a Moving Mandala. Come move together and scare away the gloomy weather!

November Module: Shape

(November 3rd, 10th, 17th, & 24th)

In November’s module we will explore shape. How does a shape feel? Where are its tensions - Muscularly or dramatically? What is its intent? We will delve into the suppleness and flow in a curved shape and juxtapose this with the inflexible, sharp and solid attributes of angular shapes. As we set these shapes into motion we will find a conversation between the two and allow them to move us.

TIMES: Level 1: Tuesdays, 18:30 - 19:45

Level 2: Tuesdays, 20.00 - 21.15

November Module: Travel and Arrive

(November 4th, 11th, 18th, & 25th)

This month we will play with the dynamics of travelling from one pose to another and arriving in your individual, full expression of a pose. We will focus on how to move into the effect of a pose rather than its aesthetics, and we will look at our breath as a travel guide and journey in and of itself!

Class size is limited to ensure a healthy and happy experience for everyone.

*This class is taught in German or English depending on the needs of the room!

*Vera also offers individual Yoga/Hands-on sessions.*

November Module: Moving Stillness

(November 4th, 11th, 18th, & 25th)

Just as November brings about the ‘quiet time’ and nature retreats for Winter, we will move from a place of stillness and calm. With a soft and attentive mind, we give space to the body’s way to move in it’s own tender and wild, fragile and bold ways.

*This class is taught in German or English depending on the needs of the room!

*Vera also offers individual Yoga/Hands-on sessions.*

INSTRUCTOR: Vera Fenyvesi Köppern

TIMES: Wednesdays, 20.00 - 21.15

October module: Memories In Motion

(October 5th, 12th, 19th, & 26th)

Memories In Motion is a module of 4 classes. It is an opportunity to investigate how your memories move your body/mind and how to transform and organize them into art-in-motion. We will warm up, we will exercise a memory through different artistic perspectives and we will harvest  movement so each participant can create their own little memory-in-motion solo.

Wear comfortable clothes, bring one memory you would like to work with and something to write notes in.

*This class is taught in German or English depending on the needs of the room!

INSTRUCTOR: Edegar Starke

TIMES: Mondays, 18.30 - 19.45

October Module: Discovery

(October 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th)

In October’s Module, we will discover our bodies through a new lens. What happens when we really see our bodies and their parts as individual creatures with neverending possibilities. What can they do? Fly, pulsate, clench, quiver, hang. What happens when we allow ourselves to sink into those possibilities and then let them go?

*This class is taught in English!

INSTRUCTOR:  Zahra Banzi

TIMES: Level 1: Tuesdays, 18:30 - 19:45

Level 2: Tuesdays, 20.00 - 21.15

LEVEL:  1 - Aimed at the beginning dancer with little to no experience.

2 - Aimed at the intermediate dancer with some experience in Contemporary dance techniques.

October module: explore your base

(October 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th)

This month, we explore the base of our practice. We draw special attention to the root - our feet, legs, and pelvis, and how the alignment of the base carries the potential to stabilize and free up the whole of the body. We also look into what other “bases” our practice is grounded on taking in account how our daily state of body and mind, our needs, challenges, and goals can shape our practice. How can we sharpen our awareness for what’s there and what’s needed and integrate it into our practice?

Class size is limited to ensure a healthy and happy experience for everyone.

*This class is taught in German or English depending on the needs of the room!

*Vera also offers individual Yoga/Hands-on sessions.*

INSTRUCTOR: Vera Fenyvesi Köppern

TIMES: Wednesdays, 18.30 - 19.45

LEVEL: This course is open to everyone.

October module: spaces

(October 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th)

In October’s module, we look at all sorts of spaces - spaces within our bodies, surrounding our bodies, created by our bodies. We try out different ways of listening to and sensing those spaces, exploring them through asana, pranayama, movement, and stillness.

*This class is taught in German or English depending on the needs of the room!

*Vera also offers individual Yoga/Hands-on sessions.*

INSTRUCTOR: Vera Fenyvesi Köppern

TIMES: Wednesdays, 20.00 - 21.15

USC & CLASSPASS

Dear friends of PAUL,

We are overjoyed to announce that PAUL will be back with a new class schedule beginning in October! Having had time to reflect & re-imagine over the last few months, we decided to make some changes regarding our classes.

As you may know, USC & ClassPass have been difficult partners for many smaller studios in this time of crisis. This fact, and the beautiful Fair Yoga Initiative created to spread awareness on the topic, led us to re-evaluate our participation in this system. We have decided that we as PAUL want to stand for community and fairness wholeheartedly, even if it means taking a risk and losing students.

We believe that systems such as USC & ClassPass promote (often without the members’ awareness) a lower appreciation of the agreement that is woven between student and teacher as an exchange of time, effort and resources. This often results in a dramatic under-payment of teachers and/or the studio. We see that a system that encourages members to try new things every day also encourages less commitment to one class or school, leading to a course landscape where participants change weekly, anonymity is increased and the chance to develop together is diminished.

As teachers, our biggest joy is to grow together in a group process, seeing students and ourselves evolve over time in our shared practice. With PAUL, we aim to create a space where you can feel home and welcomed as an individual. With an ever changing group of students, it is a big challenge to keep this atmosphere of familiarity and trust alive. We also feel it is draining for our regular students to start anew every week with a group mostly new to the class’ practice.

Especially now, after and within a financially draining time for almost everybody, we are not willing to underpay our teachers or the ones organizing and promoting the classes. We also believe that paying a studio directly for the classes one takes seals an additional contract between teacher and student, and serves as a ritual of acknowledging and appreciating the time and effort both invest to make a class happen. We understand that systems like USC & ClassPass offer the opportunity to move to those that have little money. We believe that such systems ultimately don’t succeed in diminishing precarity but instead help to spread it. If you feel like you can’t afford taking classes at PAUL, please feel free to contact us and we can see if we find a solution that respects both you and your teachers.

All these thoughts made us realize that we want to direct our work at PAUL towards a broader focus on community work and support, going beyond the artistic community. We are exploring new ways to share our space, infrastructures and knowledge with the people and initiatives around us, wishing to contribute to a system of mutual help and respect.

We look forward to having you back at PAUL soon and appreciate your continued support and understanding through all the changes we are facing as a community. Join us in the coming months for one of our new movement courses and become part of the PAUL family. We can’t wait to move together soon!

Lots of Love,

The PAUL Kollektiv

WE'RE GETTING MODULAR!

We want PAUL to be a loving, nurturing, safe space that invites exchange and growth. Therefore, we are now offering a modular class system, where each class focuses on a new theme each month. We invite participants to register for the full month, offering discounts for the module of 4 or 5 sessions (depending on days per month). This system allows each course to delve deeper into the work, to build on from last week's experiences, and to work with a steady group. This way we get to know each other a bit as a group through a shared practice. At the same time, the instructor has a chance to gain a deeper understanding of how to support you best.

Each class will be a round practice of its own, within the frame of the month’s theme or focus, keeping each session different and fun, and offering progress at the same time. Check out out the “courses” tap on our website for more details on our new modular class system and join us for a module starting in October!

Lots of Love,

The PAUL Kollektiv
