Dear friends near and dear and new to PAUL,⁠

We are very happy to announce that PAUL will reopen in October! We have spent the past 6 months while PAUL was closed due to Covid-19 reflecting, reformulating, and strengthening our wishes and visions for PAUL. In a time where isolation and distance are constant companions, we want PAUL to be a homey, cozy, and safe space. We are overjoyed each time someone tells us how they felt at ease and at home at PAUL, and we would love to spread that feeling further and consequently follow this lead. ⁠

We have decided to create a class system that offers a non-competitive, loving space of mutual exchange, work towards PAUL being a comforting, local community with a neighborhood feeling for movement lovers, artists, and everyone interested. We hope to continue being a place of support for artists, both offering a space and exchange to movers and artists with affordable residencies, our network, and future events. We want to help create a community that joyfully cares for its members.⁠

⁠We hope you will join us at PAUL in October and beyond for a class, a rehearsal, or a tea in the kitchen. We hope our PAUL family is safe and happy and can’t wait to catch up with you all soon!⁠

OPEN CALL: THE WALL SERIES VOL.11

Dear fellow Performing Artists…

We are looking forward to our 11th volume of The Wall Series at PAUL Studios Berlin! This bi-monthly performance series gives artists an opportunity to present their works in progress or finished works in an intimate setting for an enthusiastic audience.

For Vol. 11, we are looking for artists who would like to present their work on Friday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 4th 2020. We are open to performers of all disciplines interested in sharing their pieces in an intimate venue. All performers will receive 5 hours of free rehearsal time at PAUL Studios Berlin prior to the performance and will split the proceeds made at the door.

Submitted performances must:

• Be under 20 minutes in length

• Require very minimal technical needs (we are an intimate space with very basic lighting etc.)

DEADLINE: MARCH 13th

*Note: As we are a self-funded/artist-run collective, we do not have funds to cover travel or boarding costs for performers. Thank you for understanding.

Dear friends of PAUL, Artists & Art Lovers near and far,

You may have heard through the grapevine that we, PAUL Studios Berlin- a self funded, Artist run collective, have suffered extensive fire damage at the end of June and were forced to close our doors until our beloved space can be repaired. We are now turning to Berlin's lovely community of artists and art lovers to ask for your support in raising funds to help us through this time of recovery from the fire.

The afternoon of June 29th, we gathered at PAUL for one of our laboratory sessions. Within minutes of beginning the session our beloved PAUL began to fill with smoke. We evacuated the space and called the fire department right away.

We feel lucky to have been there and able to contact help quickly. However, sadly despite our best efforts, the fire department was not able to save our neighbors space - SOUNDS - which was destroyed completely by the fire. They have been such a supportive and amazing space to have nearby and we are so sorry they have to go through these challenging times.

Although our space did not catch fire itself, the fire still left quite a bit of damage in its wake, as we share a wall with SOUNDS. In saving our space from the fire, the firefighters had to open up the wall breaking several mirrors and causing damage to the ceiling and floors as well. We need to replace our sound system, curtains, soundproofing, and Marley floors. This is not to mention smoke & water damage throughout the space.

Due to the extensive damage to PAUL, we were forced to close our doors until the space can be repaired. We have had to turn away all of our regular renters, cancel our bi-monthly performance series, and our classes. This means we are not earning the income normally used to cover our basic running costs.

As many of you know, PAUL is a self-funded, Artist run collective, who's core initiative is to support the artistic community through affordable space rentals, performance opportunities, residencies, & support in artistic creation. We are now turning to this same beautiful community of artists and art lovers to ask for your help in raising funds to help us get through this hard time, and open PAUL's doors again!

Every little bit helps, and we are so grateful for anything you are able to contribute. If you are not able to donate funds, please help by sharing this with your friends and rich relatives! :)

Fire At PAUL

We are writing with very heavy hearts with some sad news. Yesterday, during our first B.R.I.D.G.E.S. event, the space next to ours caught fire. Luckily, we were at PAUL and able to call the fire department in time to save PAUL. However, the fire destroyed our neighbors space completely and caused significant damage to our space. We are sadly forced to close our doors until we can repair the damages. We are not sure how long this process will take, but we will keep you informed! We are so sorry for this inconvenience and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in this tough time.

Four bodies create a landscape of sound through the interaction with the materials and the textures. How do we conduct ourselves within the environment and architecture we have built? Embedding examines how architectural materials influence our state of being.

Nothingness is a dance theater piece dedicated to the search for nothing other than nothingness. In SOLVING TORSION ALONE Greta Salgado Kudrass works with numerous physical and situational manifestations of aggression. The Childhood I Kept To Myself is a research of the body that examines the diversity of the individuals and in MIMOWERK IV Joséphine Auffray sets off on a journey through her own various personalities.
